Super-Duper Science Sampler (SSS)
Explore five of the coolest branches of science on your way to becoming a certified Jr. Mad Scientist. Discover how birds fly, how bugs walk on water and learn what an owl eats as we dissect owl pellets in Biology; build towering structures and ingenious contraptions via Engineering; experiment with Newton’s Laws of Motion and perform the Great Tablecloth Tug during Physics; stir-up crazy concoctions that become candy, ice cream and sidewalk chalk in Chemistry; then pan for gems, create thunder and lightning and make your own volcano in Earth Science. It’s a camp so great it’s Super-Duper!
Daily Themes
Jr. Engineers
Check out shapes and why they are so strong! Investigate arches, and geodesic domes. Discover why an egg’s shape is so strong and how you can find this shape in buildings. Test loads and build some bridges when you put on an engineer’s hat and learn about structures.
Bird Biology
Where do owls live and what do they eat? How do some bugs walk on water? How do ants collect all their food? These questions and more will be answered with a walk on the wild side of things to explore owls, birds and all kinds of bugs.
Crazy Chemistry
Become a Mad Science chemist as you learn all about the chemistry things that you encounter everyday in your house and school. Discover how chemical reactions are everywhere and how you can figure out if a chemical change has occurred right before your very eyes. Mix, mush and brew together different chemicals to create things that you can use in this hands-on chemistry lab.
The Physics of Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was very curious about how things move. Discover Newton's Laws of Motion and the important force called inertia during this day devoted to motion. Campers will experiment to learn how inertia works and how gravity is a physical force that keeps all objects "stuck" to the Earth. They will build a "gravity simulator," and an "inertia tester" to continue their exploration of motion at home. And for the final "exam" - the Great Tablecloth Tug!
Earth Science
From the dirt under our toes to the stars above our heads, campers will take a journey through our planet and into our atmosphere! Dig through the deepest layers of the Earth, save the oceans from an oil spill, and then test the laws of magnetism. Pan for precious “gems”, excavate for dinosaur bones, use air to crush cans, create and catch your own cloud and witness the blasting power of pressure! Each day is a new destination as we explore the Earth Sciences!
